St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Bloomington, IN

Comprised of both short-term and long-term improvements to a parish near Indiana University’s home campus, this masterplan centers on interior renovations and a new main entrance and gathering space addition to the existing church building. The interior renovations restore a sense of the sacred throughout, elevating the sanctuary’s prominence and reunifying the church’s gothic aesthetic. The overall quality of the interior nave lighting is improved, with new custom liturgical furnishings in the sanctuary accompanied by an art program dedicated to the celebration of the church’s namesake, Saint Charles Borromeo. The reopening of a walled-off sanctuary also provides the opportunity for a new, separate adoration chapel inspired by Indiana University’s Beck Chapel. The proposed addition for the church building replaces an existing entrance and stairway, and will provide handicap access to both levels of the church.
