The Parkdale Community Center is a 12,300 s.f. facility that offers a diverse range of activities to the local citizens and serves as a bridge between seniors and youth in a low-income community in Las Vegas. The community center is a beacon and symbol for a community that needed better cultural and recreational resources, and it includes a gymnasium, game room, multipurpose meeting rooms, fitness center and community room for computer use, video games, and social events. Three sides of the building’s exterior have large overhangs that form a front porch for the community. This AIA award-winning design incorporated salvaged wood materials from the original community center that was demolished for this project, including glulam beams in the lobby that provide a warm welcome for the community while respecting the past. The community center is located adjacent to the Parkdale Senior Center and outdoor recreation, including an existing public swimming pool.
