About This Project

This project for St. Paul Catholic Church in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood provided the church with a new Parish Hall while making the building handicap accessible. The design included a new exterior ramp at the front entrance as well as a new elevator and interior stair that provide access from the main floor to the new Parish Hall below. The new hall, previously an unexcavated crawlspace, includes a 5,400sf gathering space, meeting rooms, kitchen, and new bathroom facilites. New windows provide natural light and ventilation for the lower level. JNKA’s design of the new stair and elevator under the existing choir loft, features custom brick shapes and floating brick arches that blend in with the original interior design of this historic church. Other improvements include new decorative main entry doors, two new exterior egress stairs from the lower level, and new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
