KIMBERLY Z. KUHLMAN, Assoc. AIA, LEED Green Assoc.

Vice President

Kim has been working professionally in the architectural field since 1992.  She earned a US Navy ROTC Scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, graduated with a professional degree in Architecture, and received a commission in the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps.  As Assistant Contracting Officer at Naval Air Station Bermuda, she administered educational, residential and industrial construction contracts for the US Navy, the Department of Defense and NASA.  While earning a master’s degree in Management and Human Resources Development from Webster University, Kim was assigned as Public Works Officer at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Silver Spring MD, to direct a staff of 8 personnel in administering the maintenance and utility service at the 710-acre research base.  Soon after arriving for duty, the base was slated for closure, and the mission became initiating, developing, and implementing a facility closure plan impacting 1700 employees and over 200 buildings totaling 1.25 million gross square feet, including many unique structures designed specifically for weapons systems and ordinance technologies research during and shortly after the Cold War.  Kim received the Navy Achievement Medal for her work in closing and transitioning the base to the General Services Administration, who redeveloped a large portion of the property into the headquarters of the US Food and Drug Administration.  Prior to joining JNKA in 2016, Kim worked for The Office of Thomas Norman Rajkovich Architect and Brehm Architects, and exhibited her architectural renderings publicly through the Chicago Women in Architecture.  Among her volunteer activities, Mrs. Kuhlman worked with the National Trust for Historic Preservation on the production of as-built drawings for the Filoli Mansion in San Francisco, California, and she recently completed over a decade of service to the City of Park Ridge’s Appearance Commission. Mrs. Kuhlman was awarded Maine Township’s Sgt. Karen Lader Memorial Good Citizen’s Award in 2016.
