Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, Indianapolis, IN

JNKA developed a long-range Master Plan for the Saints Peter & Paul Cathedral Parish in Indianapolis, Indiana. The design includes a new main entrance and multi-purpose gathering space addition; an enclosed colonnade that provides access to the existing chapel and cathedral from the new gathering space addition; an exterior plaza; an interior renovation of the cathedral church; and an adaptive re-use renovation of a former school building to be converted into an archdiocesan office building and parish rectory. Other improvements include exterior repairs and restoration of the existing cathedral, chapel and school building, a new vehicular entrance and drop-off, and a new organ and lighting system in the cathedral church.

The design for the interior renovation of the cathedral features radial seating and a modified sanctuary platform with an integral handicap ramp and a new marble altar, pulpit, and cathedra. The existing walls, classical pilasters, and coffered ceiling will receive a new color scheme with faux marbling and gold leaf highlights; and new decorative icons above the apse archway accentuate the existing marble reredos and icon of Saints Peter and Paul.
