About This Project

JNKA was invited to participate in a design competition for a new Coptic Orthodox Church near Chicago. The congregation had outgrown their existing church and sought design proposals for adding a larger church to their current facility as well as new church offices and classrooms for their religious education program. JNKA’s 26,500 s.f. design proposal provided a design respectful of Coptic Orthodox building traditions that featured masonry construction and arched windows matching the existing building and a new barrel vaulted worship space supporting a gold-clad dome over the chancel. A new bell tower housing the baptistry was also integrated to visually anchor the south end of the addition.
